About Malaga

#Purpose#Purposeful#On.Purpose

Malaga Elementary is a kindergarten-5th grade elementary school in the Fowler Unified School District. Malaga School is a small, neighborhood school located between downtown Fresno and Fowler. It’s the kind of small, personable school in which school staff know each child and their family. Many students have numerous extended family members who also attend Malaga School. Some students even have parents and grandparents who attended Malaga School.

We are traditional in some ways and state-of-the-art in others. We are equipped with one-to-one technology devices in all of our classrooms, kindergarten through fifth grade, including in our after-school program to meet state standards. We began this technology adventure many years ago by implementing interactive whiteboards in all classrooms. These interactive instructional tools allow teachers to integrate all realms of video, audio, and graphic tools into their teaching. All of our teachers receive significant technology training throughout the year which has enabled us to integrate technology into the core curriculum.

Additionally, Malaga Elementary’s instructional program in reading and math is research-based. All students receive daily instruction in the core grade level program, in addition to receiving individualized, small group instruction at their level of need to support the acceleration of learning.

Malaga School has numerous extra-curricular activities that address a variety of areas of child development. Our before and after-school programs, known as Falcon Club, offer tutoring in reading, STEM activities, Jr. Lego, and Student Council.

Our monthly Family Nights offer parents and their children the opportunity to learn more about our academic expectations in a fun, entertaining way. Some of these events include Super Science Night, Library Night, Technology Night, Math Night, and Literacy Night. Parents are also encouraged to join our small but mighty Parent Club, School Site Council (SSC), or the English Learner Advisor Committee (ELAC).

As important as academics are, we also realize how important it is to have a strong character and contribute positively to our community. All of our students participate in some type of service learning project where they learn to give back to others. Malaga Elementary School has been awarded the Bonner Center for Character Education Award on two different occasions, which is a testimony of just how important civic and character education is in our district and at Malaga School.

The entire staff looks forward to continuing its partnership with parents and community members in order to offer students the best, well-rounded education possible.
